Entertaiment is a term that describes entertainment through the arts. It can include: music, literature, sports, and visual art. In general, entertaintment is anything that makes someone happy. Entertainment can be relaxing, a form of escape, or even a catharsis.
The word entertaintment comes from the French suffix -ment, which was used to make nouns from verb stems (as in amazement, betterment, merriment). It is also similar to the Latin -mentum, which was added to verb stems to create nouns describing the result or effect of an action.
The most common forms of entertainment today are music, books and reading, sports and games, movies, theater, dance performances, and comedy shows. These are often combined into larger events that can entertain thousands of people. These events can be both low-brow and high-brow.
