What is Daily News?

Daily news is the main part of a morning or evening newspaper in which important and interesting stories are reported. It may also refer to a television or radio news program. It can also be a website that provides the latest news.

Often, daily news is produced in addition to other more traditional sections of the paper. These can include sports, celebrities, classified ads, and a political section. Depending on the newspaper, it can also contain opinions, comics, and a section devoted to science. Some daily newspapers also have a travel section.

A local edition of a daily news is usually produced for specific geographical areas. In the United States, these can be standalone newscasts that air for at least a half-hour or short segments that appear attached to national morning newscasts from 25 to 55 minutes past the hour. The graphics, branding and studio design of these local newscasts can vary from the network they are affiliated with although many affiliates make some on-air reference to their corresponding networks in the branding of their local newscasts.

In Europe, some commercial broadcasters have dedicated regional newscasts. For example, RTÉ has a local newscast in Ireland that is broadcast each evening at 18:00 Central European Time. In the UK, BBC and ITV have local news programs that are aired on their regional stations as well as nationally on their respective news channels. Additionally, each of the regions of Norway’s public broadcaster SVT has a local newscast that is shown each weekday evening at 18:45 Central European Time on channel 3 and simulcasts with the national newscast Dagsrevyen.

The New York Daily News was the first successful tabloid newspaper in the United States and once had one of the largest circulations of any daily paper in the world. It was founded in 1919 and is based in New York City. Its editorial stance was conservative until the 1960s and grew more liberal in later years.

It is also famous for its sensational reporting; for instance, in 1928, it printed the story of Ruth Snyder being electrocuted after being convicted of murder. It also was an early adopter of the Associated Press wirephoto service and had a large staff of photographers.

As of 2020, the Daily News is owned by Tronc, a Chicago-based media company. Ad Fontes Media rates it in the Skews Left category for bias and in the Generally Reliable/Analysis OR Other Issues category for reliability.
